Work Experience
Oct. 2003 - Present — Web Developer, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Primary responsibilities: Develop and maintain program results reports. Contracted by my former AT&T/Lucent Technologies boss, I was brought in to combine the roles of two workers. Requiring no training, I quickly took over the XML-coding of the Foundation's reports. I continue to help the Foundation maintain higher quality and accuracy in less time.
February – August 2009, Web Developer and Designer, Merrill Lynch
Primary responsibilities: Develop templates for custom web sites to be deployed for the company's thousands of Financial Advisors. Also contribute to the maintenance of intranet and public web sites. Before leaving this temporary assignment, I wrote documentation for the site's CMS.
Feb. 2006 - Feb. 2007 — Senior Manager, Global Sales Portal, Avaya
Primary responsibilities: Manage the design and development of a new sales portal for the entire company; maintain daily news content, ensure content quality and drive strategic direction and enhancements. After 11 years as a contractor, I was able to leverage my experience with the TeamSite/FileNet platform that supports the company's existing enterprise portal, and help launch a successful Sales Portal.
Sept. 2001 - Dec. 2002 — Web Developer, Verizon
Primary responsibilities: Develop and maintain intranet site. Launched a new Verizon intranet for the Safety, Health & Environment organization adhering to new standards and guidelines developed by an outside agency.
Oct. 1996 - Dec. 2005 — Web Developer, AT&T/Lucent Technologies/Avaya
Primary responsibilities: Serve as webmaster and single point-of-contact for dozens of marketing managers as Lucent Technologies' first intranet was born. In addition, I tutored users who were new to the web. As the person with the most knowledge of the web site, I responded to phone calls and email from people in search of information and assistance.
In 1999 I saved my organization at Lucent Technologies more than $50,000 by finishing the site redesign work started by an outside firm.
In August 2000, I was hand-picked to launch a new Avaya intranet for which I was the sole developer. Developed database applications and Java applets when the company's ad agency failed to deliver. In December 2004 Avaya began using Interwoven's Content Center v6.1 and enabling authors to publish their own materials. With four years of Interwoven TeamSite experience at that time, I became the site's primary reviewer, approver and quality manager. In addition, I maintained the Press Room and Corporate sections of the public site, www.Avaya.com, using a proprietary content management system and Microsoft's InfoPath.
February 1995–October 1996, Marketing Communications Writer, AT&T and Lucent Technologies
Primary responsibilities: Write and produce marketing materials to help emerging product group gain visibility with the sales force and earn the loyalty of a growing customer base. Enable marketing team to get sales materials and training tools into the hands of account executives three times faster than before. Develop the largest and most detailed presence on the public AT&T/Lucent web site of any product group in the company.
1990–1996, President and owner, Words Worth Publishing, Inc.
Primary responsibilities: Write and produce brochures, newsletters and other communications for dozens of companies. Help regional Internet Service Provider gain market share by writing and producing a monthly customer newsletter for three years (www.voicenet.com). Learn HTML and Internet software in order to write the newsletter; use this knowledge to teach seminars and courses for other companies. Create B.B. King's initial web site (Worldblues.com) and reprogram the Beaver College site (now Arcadia University).
1983–1988, Advertising and Marketing Communications Writer
Primary responsibilities: Promote the sale of computer software (for Applied Data Research of Princeton, NJ) and electronic components (for companies such as Panasonic) by writing effective copy for brochures, sales literature, video scripts, and more.
